Dear Joe,
Now that Daniel has mailed you, I will write you a letter, too. It has been a long time since our last mail, but this doesn’t mean that we haven’t thought about you. As a matter of fact we think and talk about you very often. Around New Year Klavs and I talked about the old year and we agreed that the treatment of Daniel’s pectus carinatum was the most important thing that had happened to our family in 2008.
A year has gone by now since we visited you, and Daniel and I have reexperienced the journey many times in our minds. We are very greatful for what you have done for us – and for the way you have done it! We would always be happy for the treatment, but the fact that you are such a kind and warm person and that we fealt that we got a friend has made it all an experience with a deeper meaning.
We hope that you are well and happy. How are is Toni doing – and the boys? We also hope that your mother is doing well again after the loss of your father.
Daniel has really grown during the last year. He is now quite tall, slim – and with a quite good-looking chest. The pectus carinatum is gone. He still has flared ribs to some extent, but I don’t think that is a problem. He is doing extremely well at school, he is the head of the pupil council and is very socially minded. He is very interested in social conditions and politics. He has had a vocational experience in the Danish Parliament (just for one week) and that was a very interesting experience.
All of us would really like to see you again. We still hope that you could come to Denmark some day. Otherwise we hope to see you again in the States some time.
Sincerely,
Merete (mother of Daniel)
